Week 1 Sanga

Sanga 1: Importance of association

The Srimad-Bhagavatam (3.25.25) summarizes the results of meetings of devotees: “In the association of pure devotees, discussion of the pastimes and activities of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is very pleasing and satisfying to the ear and heart. By cultivating such knowledge one gradually becomes advanced on the path of liberation, and thereafter he is freed and his attraction becomes fixed. Then real devotion and devotional service begin.”

  1. Read this article by Karnamrita Prabhu; if you have time you can also skim the comments from other devotees

Objective: Get to know your group and have a few icebreakers. Explore the importance of association in our lives

Karnamrita Prabhu gives nice analogies to understand the friendships and association. Which stood out to you? Which resonated with you in regards to your own friendships?

“ We think this sharing of who we “think we truly are” to be what friendship and intimacy is about—with the addition of giving support and respect to one another, while accepting who the other is without negative judgment.” Do you agree with this definition? What would you add or remove?

“Radha and Krishna are our real friends” How do we understand this statement? Is this concept subjective or maybe too abstract? How does practically apply to our spiritual lives?
